The First of Many Ballgames

sunny 0 °F

Beautiful morning so I walk around the park early in the morning and watch the sun rise over the mountains. Today we will go to the first of many planned baseball games for the trip (I think we have at least 10 planned). Jere wants to visit all the professional baseball parks sometime in his lifetime, so we are going to visit 5 Cactus League Spring Training baseball parks that are in the Arizona in the next week.

We arrive two hours before game time to watch the players warm up and check out the park. It's a small stadium and you can get close to the field. Today we see the Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies spring training field in Tucson. There are very few shaded seats at this stadium and it is hot and sunny -- yes, I know, "but it's dry heat". It was hot! Not sure what the temp was but it was supposed to be in the mid 80s and sunny, very little breeze. The middle-aged mom two rows in front of us took off her t-shirt to reveal a skimpy bikini top, so she was prepared -- though several of us looked at each other in surprise when she did it--I think we were all a little jealous of her :-).

The game wasn't very exciting, though it did start out with Alfonzo Sorriano (Cubs) hitting a homerun. Besides that, the highlight was probably me eating an entire RockieDog. I think I ate my total allowable fat content for the next week.

After the game we drove over to the Tucson Mountain Park. Joe and Jere climbed up to the lookout while I took picures:

Then we continued on to the western section of Saguaro National Park. We walked around a little and drove the scenic loop.

Then a quick stop at Kentucky Fried Chicken for additional fat and back to the RV.

Our one laptop's LCD screen stopped working yesterday morning so I've been trying to get Dell tech support to fix it. So I spent another 45 minutes on the phone with them when we got back. The service tech that they said would call me today never did call. They said he will call tomorrow to set up an appointment. I'm quickly using up my cell phone minutes with Dell.
